GREECE CRETE LASITHI MIRTOS PHOURNOU KORYPHI

Did Minoans, as often reported, really live in peace without need for any fortifications? Actually, part of Phournou Koryphi is surrounded by large walls - not very strong, but with only two openings. Like Mirtos Pirgos, Phournou Koryphi lies on the top of a steep hill (nearly inaccessible on the east and south side). Taking also into account the sites of Chamaizi and Agia Fotia (Kouphota) in northeastern Crete, indications exist to hint at a threat to Early Minoan settlements.
