West of the acropolis was the lower town of ancient Methana which has not been excavated yet. Anyway, the harbour and part of the old town are submerged. Since also byzantine churches have been flooded this must have happened in the Middle Ages. - Below: Views from the acropolis to the west and Vathy. |

Below: About 70 m south of the acropolis lies the small cross-in-square chapel Agios Nikolaos of the 11th century. The ground-level today lies ca. 1m higher than at the time of construction, so that steps lead down to the entrance. It was locked during my visit, but anyway no frescoes have survived in the chapel. |
